Town Of Brookhaven Does The Right Thing

June 24, 2010 10:50 AM

Councilman Dan Panico and the Brookhaven Town Board did the right thing on June 15th, by placing a tax cap proposal on the November ballot. If passed by the voters, this legislation will send a clear message; we must not spend more than we take in! The tax cap is a perfect example of the common sense conservative approach to government that I've been talking about on the campaign trail in my effort to oust liberal incumbent Tim Bishop. Elected officials at each level of government should follow the example set forth by Councilman Panico and Legislator Ed Romaine; the taxpayers are sick and tired of the tax and spend mentality that permeates this state and this nation. Congressman Tim Bishop should pay close attention to what is going on in Brookhaven, because the tax revolt is coming to Washington as well.

When a cap is set on tax increases, the taxpayers are the big winners. Laws like these set clear parameters on how much taxpayers are willing to pay for services and forces elected officials to work within a defined budget and to prioritize the needs of government.
