We Need Term Limits Now!
May 12, 2010 10:37 AM
The time has come for term limits for both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The American people are sick and tired of the culture of corruption and entitlement that envelopes Washington and the professional politicians who perpetuate it. I don't think the founding fathers ever envisioned a class of career politicians who would spend 20, 30, 40, or even 50 years holding the same seat in our nation's legislature. I plan to be a citizen legislator, not a career politician.
When elected to Congress I will fight to pass legislation that will require mandatory term limits in both the House and the Senate. I support Senator Jim DeMint's plan that calls for three terms for House members (6 years) and two terms for Senators (12 years). I call on my opponents for the Republican nomination to pledge to support the passage of term limits for members of the U.S. House and Senate.
In the business world, I have always tried to lead by example. In politics, I plan to do the same thing. I pledge today, that I will fight for meaningful term limits legislation for Congress and I call on my opponents for the Republican nomination to do the same. As scandal after scandal has proven, career politicians are bad for America and bad for democracy. The power of incumbency shields them from defeat at the polls and helps them maintain the status quo in the halls of Congress.
Tim Bishop has become a poster boy for all that is wrong in Washington. He is an out of touch, career politician, who votes time and again for the big spending, high taxing, deficit growing policies of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama. This must end. We must "introduce him" to our own brand of term limits and vote him out of office in November.
