We Need A Balanced Budget Amendment

March 15, 2010 1:02 PM

Today, I'm proud to announce my support for a Federal Balanced Budget Amendment, because we have a moral obligation to future generations to use every means possible to stop the fiscal insanity that is pushing our nation further and further in debt.

This is not about partisan politics, this is about doing the right thing for our country and its people. Most states and our own families are required to produce balanced budgets, the federal government must exercise the same fiscal prudence.

This nation is currently in the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression and this crisis is being fueled in part by a government addicted to spending. In turn, to pay for that spending, Congress saddles the American people with higher taxes and an ever-growing national deficit. We must put our financial house in order. We have a moral obligation to future generations to use every means possible to stop the fiscal insanity that is pushing our nation further and further in debt.

I call on my opponents in the GOP Primary and Congressman Tim Bishop to join me in committing to this basic principle; we must stop spending more money than we have. This is not about partisan politics -- this is about doing the right thing for our country and its people. Whether in our private lives or in business, we all know the hard cold fact; we can't live beyond our means, we can't spend more than we take in. Isn't it time Congress realized that too?
