It's Time For A New Way of Doing Business in Washington

The Department of Labor's announcement on Friday of a 26-year-high unemployment rate of 9.8 percent serves to emphasize what is becoming increasingly clear: Nancy Pelosi and Tim Bishop's policy prescription of massive government spending, bailouts, and trillion dollar deficits is not working.
Staggering as these numbers are, they are not as sobering as many of the folks I continue to meet as I travel around the First Congressional District. Many small business owners, folks who have lost their job, those who fear unemployment may be right around the corner, and families struggling to get by are fed up with the irresponsible industry bailouts in Albany and Washington. Larger government fueled by rampant deficit spending and increased taxes are the wrong prescription for what ails our sluggish economy.
The people of New York's First Congressional District understand that to have a sustained economic recovery lawmakers must restore fiscal discipline to our budget process and provide substantive tax relief for working families and small businesses.
I will use my experience outside of government to help create an environment that fosters economic growth and job creation. It's time we find a new way of doing business in Washington.
