Candidate for US Congress Randy Altschuler Calls on Tim Bishop to Listen to the Citizens of NY-01 and Reject a Government-Run Health Care System

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, August 24, 2009

EAST SETAUKET, NY: Today, entrepreneur and Republican Candidate for US Congress Randy Altschuler released the following statement:

"When the August recess is over, it is my hope that Tim Bishop will carry the message back to Washington and to Nancy Pelosi that the citizens of New York's First Congressional District do not want a government-run health care system.

"We must make health insurance more accessible, portable, and affordable for all Americans, but government-run health care is certainly not the answer. Americans desire less bureaucracy and interference between themselves and their doctors, nurses and other health care providers.

"Any reform legislation worth considering must give people the ability to choose their own doctor and health plan, address tort reform and ensure that we get more value for our health care dollar. New taxes that add billions to our national debt are not the answer.

"America offers the greatest health care in the world. People seeking treatment come to the United States, especially New York State, from everywhere and for good reason. As part of a comprehensive and uniquely American reform strategy, we should build on our enormous medical assets in New York, which already provide jobs to so many.

"I call upon Mr. Bishop to listen to the citizens of the First Congressional District and ask Speaker Pelosi to take the public option off of the table and scrap any bill which nationalizes our health care system. Speaker Pelosi should work with Republicans in a constructive and bi-partisan manner to deal with our large uninsured population and make the entire system more cost-effective.

"That's the message Tim Bishop should take back to Washington, and if he cannot, I will."

Randy Altschuler is a businessman, former Fulbright Scholar and graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School. He is married to Cheryl Altschuler, MD, a practicing pediatrician in Shirley and Port Jefferson, New York. They have a young son, Noah, and reside in St. James, New York.
